Kaycee's Javelina Hunt 2010

It all started back in 2008. It was the first time I had ever been drawn for Javelina. We went out and were not successful. The next year I was drawn in the same unit. We got on some pigs and then we lost them. After about an hour of glassing my dad and I decided to get out the varmint call. We were sitting there for about a minute and a half when two foxes came trotting around the side of the mountain and the one sat there long enough for me to get my first fox. I didn’t get discouraged and just kept hope. I came home one day from school and my Dad was standing there smiling saying “Guess who was drawn for pig?” I just smiled. He said we were going to try a new unit. We left Friday the 29 and got to camp around 10:30 p.m.  We got up around 7 the next morning and headed out around 9:15. We got the trucks parked and the ranger and quads unloaded. All together their was 8 of us, my dad Rich, Scott , Sonya , Bryan W., Dennis , Brian H., Mark  and myself. Brian W. went out on this little knob and within minutes had pigs.  After my dad had his radio working Bryan told us he found them. We grabbed my gun, extra bullets and Dennis,  and  headed to Bryan. He got my dad and me to where the pigs couldn’t see us. I couldn’t sit still so Brian ran up and grabbed his tripod so I could use that to rest my gun on. It took me a couple minutes to find my pig in my crosshairs but I got her. I was shooting down hill so I hit her in the spine. We reloaded my gun just in case I needed to shoot again. We only had to track her for about 20 yards from where I shot her and found her under a tree. The hunt and kill part took about 10-15 minutes but the pictures toke more like 30 minutes. This was the hunt I will never forget. I am very happy the way this hunt went and ended. I would like to send a HUGE HUGE thank you to My Dad, Scott Streich, Sonya , (my uncle) Bryan Waitman, Dennis Waitman, Mark Bool, Brian Hurley, Jared McFarland, and John Dickson. None of this would have been possible without any of you. I am so thankful to people in my life that want to help and teach me the ways of hunting.

The Arizona Deer Association hosted a Youth Javelina hunt in Jan. 2010 and these are a few of our successful students. The photo on the left shows Kaycee and the group that helped her get her javelina.
