ARIZONA DEER ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING August 19, 2008

I. Welcome and Call to order The president called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm
II. Guest Speakers Joe Sacco from the Arizona Game and Fish Department gave an audio-visual presentation on the new dust ordinances in Maricopa County. If the specified area does not meet the federal standards, the US government will withhold $1.2 billion in federal highway funds. Certain measures will affect hunters especially those driving or parking on unstabilized lots during dove season. Game and Fish reported that there is $2.9 million unallocated in the tag fund, with $680,000 in the mule deer accounts alone. The department is looking for input on the hunt guidelines. The Kaibab update will be given at the September meeting. III. Minutes Pete Cimellaro moved, John Koleszar seconded, to accept the minutes as presented. Motion carried. IV. Treasurer’s Report Terry Herndon moved, John Koleszar seconded, to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried.
V. Old Business Region 5 Water Trailer was discussed. Pete Cimellaro moved, Terry Herndon seconded, to pay the full amount of the trailer and to request reimbursement from Southern Arizona SCI as soon as possible. Motion carried. Arrangements for the clinic are progressing and the board discussed the details.
VI. Committee Reports Habitat Projects – committee meeting on 8/2/08 in Show Low. Ron Thompson, Brian Wakeling attended. Steve Clark for AES, Scott Paulson for APS discussed tree removal around the projects where there are power lines nearby. The Game and fish is monitoring the perimeter of the 3-Bar enclosure daily to track the birth of fawns. 17 have been born so far; 3 have died. Of the 20 that were collared last year, two are still alive. Commissioner Jennifer Martin’s Conservationist Committee met and more meeting are scheduled. Game and Fish - We have paid $24,000 for the coues’ tag. Jim deVos has been drafting a response to the wolf expansion plan for ADA. He is looking at partnering with AES on the draft letter. Pete Cimellaro moved, Amanda Moors seconded, to sign the proposed contract with SWAG. Motion carried Membership - We have 301 paid for 2008-2009; 311 still have not yet renewed. We hope to send our second invoice in September on a new, letter-type format. Newsletter – the newsletter is at the mail house. Youth – no report. Legislative - no report. Website – no report. Public Relations – no report. Conservation Partners – no report.
VII. New Business Arizona Sportsmen for Wildlife has requested to use our membership list to solicit for their banquet ticket sales. Rick Miller moved, Mark Bool seconded, to authorize AZSFW to mail to our list for a one-time use only. Motion carried. The list will be sent to a mail house, and not the AZSWF offices. Sportsman’s Warehouse has requested that the ADA attend Hunting and Fishing Day on September 27th at their Mesa location. Pete Cimellaro moved, Mark Bool seconded, to donate $100 to the US Sportsmen’s Alliance. Motion carried.
VIII. Adjourn There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm |
