Boquillas Ranch Cleanup Set for June 25 By Don Martin, MSC Government Liaison Our 13th annual Boquillas Ranch clean up, organized by the Mohave Sportsman Club as part of the “Adopt-A-Ranch” program, has been set for Saturday, June 25. The project starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. In exchange for the clean up effort, the Navajo Nation, which owns the sprawling 730,000-acre ranch in Unit 10, allows ALL recreational users limited access on the ranch for another year. Participants will meet at Pica Camp at 8 a.m. and receive a briefing from Unit 10 Wildlife Manager Tim Pender. After a group photo is taken to document our presence on the ranch, it’s time to grab some plastic bags (furnished by G&F) and head off. After spending the day in the field, bring your trash back to Pica Camp where the Game & Fish Department has made arrangements for it to be picked up. To get to Pica Camp, take highway 66 to milepost 123.5, turn north and go two miles. You’ll see all of us there! The MSC and the Arizona Deer Association will be conducting a free all-you-can-eat hamburger/hotdog dinner starting at 7 p.m. in Pine Canyon. To reach the camping area where the dinner is held, go north from Pica Camp on Rhodes Canyon Road about eight miles (signs will be posted). Turn left into Pine Canyon and travel a couple of miles east to the main camp area. After dinner Saturday evening, there will be a campfire featuring a “state-of-the-state” discussion in which everyone is welcome to participate. On Sunday morning, our friends at the ADA will cook a delicious biscuits and sausage gravy breakfast for those who have stayed over. Whether you’re a hunter, hiker, 4X4 enthusiasts, bird watcher or just like to get away from the hustle and bustle and camp out, this is one way to ensure you have a place to recreate. Since this is a family event, bring your wife and kids and have a fun filled weekend. You are also encouraged to bring along a rifle, as coyotes are still in season at this time. The antelope and deer have dropped their fawns in Unit 10 at this time, so taking a coyote could save a fawn, and they need the help! For more information on the project contact Don Martin at 928-681-4867 or 928-303-9481.
