ARIZONA DEER ASSOCIATION Board of Directors Meeting 12/17/03

Scott Gorczyca Meeting called to order by Past President Bob Davies at 6:40 p.m. Stan C. is ordering 12 GPS/Radio Collars programmed to monitor deer in the Rodeo Fire area. The monitoring will be done in conjunction with ASU East and will study deer movement and how a fire affects deer movement. Landscape Ecolige is looking at patches. The department needs help in 4A/4B & 3/C for surveys on does and fawns. 10-15 people per weekend mid January through March. Stan C. will get back with the ADA by next meeting. He will provide what dates and what area the survey needs to be done. Stan also needs more collars and funding to do the study well. The collars are $2,700 a piece and $1,100 to rebuild collars. 20 collars in burn and 10 collars in 4A/4B. Stan has 14 and needs another 16 collars. Joe Bill Pickrell moved, Domenick Lopano seconded, that the minutes of the November meeting be approved. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
· Craig Dunlap reported youth vests have been paid for. · Joe Bill Pickrell moved, Amanda Moors seconded to approve the Treasurer’s Report as presented. Motion carried.
Newsletter
· The Deer Times is at the printer and should go out next week.
Habitat
· 1st week – work project scheduled tank 737 KOFAs with Yuma Valley Rod & Gun Club. · Mark Bool moved, Joe Bill Pickrell seconded, to approve $200 for clean up in unit 36 for food and beverages. Motion carried.
G & F
· Pete C. reported that a conservation bonus point may be possible in 2006 season. · Kevin Harris reported on petition re: spotlighting during an open season. G&F will talk about it at February meeting. · Pete C. distributed a sign-up sheet for January 17 Meet the Commission and AZSCI Fundraising banquet.
Youth Program
· Craig D. reports trailer is clean. · Ed Hiegler will be put on the trailer.
Website
· Amanda reported that the web site has been updated, and includes information about the knife for table purchasers at the banquet, projects updates, newsletter, minutes.
Banquet
· Chris D. hands out banquet summary. · Tracey reports 90 tickets sold. · Chris will email everyone tomorrow on updated banquet items. · VIP table 10 dinners – 20 drink tickets. $300 general raffle tickets, 3 optic tickets, recognition in banquet program and plaque, silent auction donation in their name and Oz custom ADA commemorative knife.

New Business
· Apparently, condors have died because of eating lead and Kevin Harrie reported on condors and lead poising study group. JB Case is conducting a study of condors and how they are coming in to contact with lead. · Pete C. reported on plans to institute a Conservationist of the Year award, presented to a person who represents all aspects of conservation. It has been recommended that the award be named after Jim Jamison, and that the award may possibly be presented at a Meet the Commission banquet and ADA Banquet. After discussion, a committee was formed to devise standards for the award. Pete Cimellaro moved, Joe Bill Pickrell seconded, to commit the ADA to begin the process for this award. There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
