V.  Committee Reports

a.  Youth Committee – Stan Johnsen distributed a comprehensive written report and reviewed the salient points.  The 19C javelina hunt camp was a success, with 40 kids coming through.  An article has been provided to both Cathy Cimellaro and Amanda Moors for the website and newsletter.  Sportsmen’s Warehouse donated several items to the camp, and will also donate a rifle to the March Unit 36 trash clean-up and allow us to use their classroom for hunter safety classes.

Stan will take the trailer to the March 5th Unit 36 clean-up.  We will be raffling three rifles there, expecting 250-300 people.  We will be promoting this event to our junior members and junior hunters.  Stan Johnsen moved, Pete Cimellaro seconded, that the Board allocate $250 to sponsor the March 5th Unit 36 clean-up.  Motion carried.

b.  Membership – We have 13 life members, 13 paid for 2006, and 450 paid members.  We also have approximately 380 who have not renewed.  The board discussed the membership service, cards, decals and letters.  Pete reviewed the plans for a member solicitation mailing.  He and Cathy will design a 4-color piece and have it printed and mailed to a list of approximately 8-10,000 people, culled from a list of deer hunters.  Pete reviewed the details and costs.  Pete Cimellaro moved, Chris Denham seconded, to allocate up to $6000 to produce this mailing.  Motion carried.

c. Habitat Projects – Game and Fish’s deadline for project proposals is March 1st, and we can expect to see a proposal packet on or around April 1st.  The Copper Hills project is cancelled.  There is a waterhole in Unit 23 with a 7,000 gallon tank, that needs some minor repairs, including paint and a walk-in drinker.  Rick Rademacher moved, Chris Denham seconded, to spend up to $2000 to fix the Crouch Mesa Tank, using ADA funds.  Motion carried.  Rick Rademacher volunteered to lead this project effort.

d.  Game and Fish – Arizona Senate bill 1365 has moved out of the Natural Resources Committee and will be shortly submitted to the full senate for a vote.  We will need people to make phone calls to their senators supporting the legislation.  The Board reviewed the lobbying work involved in this issue.  Kevin Harris moved, Pete Cimellaro seconded, that the ADA pay $4000 directly to Suzanne Gilstrap for lobbying fees associated with moving Senate bill 1365.  Motion carried.

The board reviewed Ranching for Wildlife and discussed the Navajo Nation’s support for this program.  The Game and Fish Department has not yet negotiated with the Navajos for 2005 permits on the Boquillas Ranch.  The Department and several concerned individuals are working with the Navajos to ensure that the ranch is kept open to hunting.  A new commissioner has not yet been confirmed.

The Board discussed the mule deer tag purchaser’s concern about the Department’s consideration of changing the spotlighting rules.  No action was taken.

In Mohave County there is a late juniors’ muzzleloader deer hunt.  Game and Fish wants to move the hunt back to November and offer more tags.  The Mohave Sportsmen’s Club wants the department to leave the hunt as it is.  The board discussed this issue; however, not action was taken at this time.

e.  Newsletter – We will have a new printer for the next issue, and Pete is working with Benchmark Printing to get a bid.  The next issue is scheduled to come out before the banquet.

f.  WCC – The Expo is this weekend, and we need volunteers to work the booth.  Steve Cheuvront, Pete Cimellaro, Kevin Harris and Chris Denham will be doing set-up on Thursday.

g.  Website – Amanda has added an order form for purchasing banquet tickets, and information about all the special tags that we will be auctioning.

h.  Banquet – Tracey Martin has purchased several ladies items for the silent auction, and anticipates spending around $200.  She will also get a gold bracelet and a few other items.  Ticket sales are 66 total, with 6 tables and 6 individual tickets.  Chris Denham will work on Diamondbacks stuff.  The board reviewed the tent package.

i.  Public Relations – no report.

j.  Conservation Partners – Chris Denham provided a written report and reviewed the partner benefits.  The board discussed the goals of the program and the purpose of the funds raised through conservation partners.  Chris is continuing to work on this program.

VI.  New Business

a.  Las Cienagas Fence Removal – the board discussed the details of this project proposal, which is in 36B.  Several other organizations are also considering assisting, including the Arizona Antelope Foundation and the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society.  Once we have more details, we can see where ADA assistance may be needed.

b.  ADBSS Black Tank Project – at the project this weekend, KOFA personnel are asking for time to address the volunteers about lions on the KOFA.

c.  Buckskin Chapter Banquet Support – Chris Denham moved, Craig Dunlap seconded, to allocate $1000 to send to the Buckskin Chapter for their banquet purchases.  Motion carried.

d.  Antelope Eaters Hunt – The board briefly discussed the details of the event.  Pete Cimellaro moved, Chris Denham seconded, that the board approve $200 for this hunt, if necessary.  Motion carried.

e.  Save a Fawn – this event, scheduled for the weekend of Feb 26-27 in Region I may be postponed again due to the road conditions in the area.  Everyone will be updated via email about the status.
