Arizona Deer Association Board of Directors Meeting January 27, 2009

I. Welcome and Call to Order The President called the meeting to order by the President at 6:30 pm
II. News from Game and fish The Kaibab surveys are underway. An early March meeting is proposed to discuss deer hunt recommendation. Salt and bait public comments are in the 30-day period. Brad Freitag moved, Keith Gaines seconded, to draft a letter to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission rulemaking process with our specific questions about the proposed rule change. Motion carried. Chris Denham will draft the questions for submission.
III. Minutes of the past meeting Deferred until the February meeting.
IV. Treasurer’s Report It was pointed out that the association is suffering from a severe deficit due to last year’s spending and that cost saving/cutting measures need to be instituted. Chris Denham moved, Domenick Lopano seconded, to approve the treasurer’s report as submitted. Motion carried.
V. Old Business The board discussed the whitetail tag raffle. The drawing will be June 27th at our banquet. We need to set up our internet merchant account and Brad will handle this with Tracey’s assistance.
The ISE expo is February 27th-March 1st
The AZGFD expo is March 28th-29th The Deer Hunter’s clinic is August 15th.
We need a committee chair for the 2009 Banquet. John Koleszar moved, Domenick Lopano seconded, to nominate Pete Cimellaro for the Banquet Chairmanship. Motion failed.
VI. Committee Reports Membership - We have 487 paid members: 435 regular members, 26 life, 10 sustaining and 16 youth. Habitat Projects – no report. Game and Fish – no further report. Newsletter – Need articles ASAP. Youth - Brian Waitman will serve as the new Youth Chair. Legislative – no report. Website - no report. Raffle – We need to get our on-line merchant account, and Brad will work on this with Tracey Martin’s assistance. We are working with Tracy Unmacht to get the on-line process started.
VII. New Business Domenick Lopano moved, Mark Bool seconded, to donate $1000 to the Buckskin chapter’s banquet. Motion carried.
Chris Denham moved, Rick Miller seconded, to donate $300 to the Antelope Eaters event. Motion carried, with one abstention.
Brad Freitag moved, Domenick Lopano seconded, to elect Brian Waitman as the Youth Chair. Motion carried.
The board discussed reimbursement for the treasurer to attend SCI and solicit donations.
Brad Freitag moved, Chris Denham seconded, to pay our dues to the WCC. Motion carried. Since the dues are $1/member, our payment will be $487.
Brad Freitag moved, Rick Miller seconded, to elect Andrew Bray to the board of directors. Motion carried.
Jim deVos is requesting $100,000 from the tag fund for a 2000 acre project in the Kaibab. This will be discussed further at the next meting.
The AZGFD is holding a small game camp in Kingman. No action was taken.
VIII. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 10:00 pm
