Arizona Deer Association Board of Directors Meeting Annual Meeting of Members June 24, 2008

I. Welcome and Call to order The president called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm
II. Election of Officers Amanda Moors moved, Terry Herndon seconded, to elect the slate of officers and board members as presented. Motion carried. The new officers and board members are: President – Jeff Dickey Vice President – John Koleszar Secretary – Keith Gaines Treasurer – Craig Dunlap Past President — Pete Cimellaro
Elected to serve a 2-year term beginning 6/24/2008: Brad Freitag, Domenick Lopano, Amanda Moors, Bryan Waitman Completing the final year of a 2-year term: Joe Allen, Rick Miller, Mark Bool, Chris Denham, Terry Herndon
III. Treasurer’s Report Chris Denham moved, John Koleszar seconded, to accept the Treasurer’s report as submitted. Motion carried.
IV. Bylaws Changes Domenick Lopano moved, Amanda Moors seconded, to accept the bylaws changes as presented. Motion carried. V. Game and Fish Chasa O’Brien presented a lengthy report on the Kaibab habitat research study for 2008. She distributed a written summary on the preliminary findings and a map of the deer distribution. The board conducted a discussion about how the cliffrose research was conducted and the relevance of the cliffrose research in the alternative management plan. The board and members thanked Chasa for her presentation The Game and Fish Department will be conducting a junior deer seminar on October 15th in Phoenix and October 16th in Tucson.
VI. Other Reports 2009 Banquet – the date will be June 27th at the Chaparral Suites Habitat – Jim deVos is drafting a letter to the USFWS regarding the expansion of the Mexican Gray Wolf study area. The cost of his time will be split between ADA and AES 3-Bar Study – Last year, $28,000 was spent on this study, and it is expected to cost $60,000. The study will be peer-reviewed when completed. Membership – our long-time database manager is retiring. For the past 20 years or so, he has used DOS-based, proprietary software and we will need to convert our database. Tracey Martin has been asked to submit a proposal for services. State Budget – The legislature has swept $13 million from Game and Fish, and $1.8 million from watercraft. The AZSFW is sponsoring a petition, signed on to by most wildlife associations, to urge the Commission to strongly advocate with the legislature to stop sweeping Game and Fish funds. Hunters Clinic – the clinic is scheduled for Saturday August 23rd from noon -4:00 pm. Rick Miller is spearheading this effort, and he reviewed the assistance he will need. Kaibab Discussion – The board and members discussed the future of the Kaibab deer herd and the management plan. It was suggested that we form a committee of Jim deVos, Tom Britt, Raymond Lee, and one member each from the ADA and the Buckskin Chapter board. Dr. Warren Ballard will serve the committee in an oversight capacity, reviewing any of the committee’s recommendations. The Committee may also include a member of the Grand Canyon Trust if the current committee deems is necessary and appropriate. Travel expenses to committee meetings would be covered by ADA. Rick Miller moved, Terry Herndon seconded, that the establishment of this committee be approved. Motion carried. Amanda Moors moved, Chris Denham seconded, to approve the committee’s travel expenses when necessary. Motion carried. There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 9:25 pm.
