The Game and Fish Department will be conducting a junior deer seminar on October 15th in Phoenix and October 16th in Tucson.

VI.  Other Reports

2009 Banquet – the date will be June 27th at the Chaparral Suites

Habitat – Jim deVos is drafting a letter to the USFWS regarding the expansion of the Mexican Gray Wolf study area.  The cost of his time will be split between ADA and AES

3-Bar Study – Last year, $28,000 was spent on this study, and it is expected to cost $60,000.  The study will be peer-reviewed when completed.

Membership – our long-time database manager is retiring.  For the past 20 years or so, he has used DOS-based, proprietary software and we will need to convert our database.  Tracey Martin has been asked to submit a proposal for services.

State Budget – The legislature has swept $13 million from Game and Fish, and  $1.8 million from watercraft.  The AZSFW is sponsoring a petition, signed on to by most wildlife associations, to urge the Commission to strongly advocate with the legislature to stop sweeping Game and Fish funds.

Hunters Clinic – the clinic is scheduled for Saturday August 23rd from noon -4:00 pm.  Rick Miller is spearheading this effort, and he reviewed the assistance he will need.

Kaibab Discussion – The board and members discussed the future of the Kaibab deer herd and the management plan.   It was suggested that we form a committee of Jim deVos, Tom Britt, Raymond Lee, and one member each from the ADA and the Buckskin Chapter board.  Dr. Warren Ballard will serve the committee in an oversight capacity, reviewing any of the committee’s recommendations.  The Committee may also include a member of the Grand Canyon Trust if the current committee deems is necessary and appropriate.  Travel expenses to committee meetings would be covered by ADA.   Rick Miller moved, Terry Herndon seconded, that the establishment of this committee be approved.  Motion carried.  Amanda Moors moved, Chris Denham seconded, to approve the committee’s travel expenses when necessary.  Motion carried.

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 9:25 pm.
