Kaibab Work Party - July 22, 2006

come help us with some fencing work!

Hello to all,

Wanted to give everyone plenty of time to make plans for our annual family Kaibab camp out and work party. This year we will be fencing East Lake on July 22nd in cooperation with volunteers from the Grand Canyon Trust. The Forest Service and (hopefully) the Arizona Game & Fish Dept. will also participate....and I want to extend a welcome to the Mule Deer Foundation, Arizona Bow Hunters Association, White Mountain Sportsmen, Friends of the Paunsaugunt (SFW), and all other interested parties to come out and give a hand with the fence building.

We have been granted a camping permit from the North Kaibab Ranger District and reservations for the camp facilities at Mile-and-a-half have been made. Some of us will be going up on Thursday the 20th and will start work on Friday (21st). The major work day will be Saturday (22nd)....and Jay Esplin will be preparing one of his Dutch-Oven dinners for the evening meal!! So come one, come all, and bring a friend....we will have a good time....and a great meal!

The turn off for Mile-and-a-half (FR 212) is about 8 miles south of Jacobs Lake....the camp area is 2.1 miles down the road on the left. Work at East Lake will probably kick-off at 0800hrs Saturday morning and you don't have to camp to participate....come up just for the day if you like. The more workers we have....the quicker we get done. Be sure to bring your sun protection, lunch, water and your work gear....short handle double-jacks come in very handy with this type fence building.

Feel free to call if you need more info: Dustin Burger (NKRD) at (928) 643-8136, Kari Malen (Grand Canyon Trust) at (928) 774-7488 ext 217, or Richard Leightner (Buckskin Chapter, ADA) at (928) 645-9669. Hope to see you all there!
