Arizona Deer Association Board of Directors Meeting November 15, 2008

I. Welcome and Call to Order The President called the meeting to order by the Vice President, who chaired the meeting in the president’s absence, at 6:45 pm II. Guest Speakers Ron Seig and Chasa O’Brien provided timetable for completion the Kaibab study. At this time, 800 acres have been seeded and three-quarters have a herbicide as well to control cheat grass. The board thanked Ron Sieg and Chasa O’Brien for their presentations. III. Minutes of the past meeting There was no October meeting. IV. Treasurer’s Report Rick Miller moved, Mark Bool seconded, that the Treasurer’s report be accepted as presented. Motion carried. V. Old Business The board discussed the deer hotline and the expense involved in maintaining an exclusive phone line for the association. Rick Miller moved, Amanda Moors seconded, to close the deer hotline and have calls go to Tracey Martin’s line. Tracey will set up a voice mail box on her system for $10/month, and will only charge ADA for any outgoing, long-distance calls made. Motion carried. VI. Committee Reports Membership - We have 470 paid members and have sent out our second dues notice. Habitat Projects – Horseshoe Ranch project has been put on hold. The department is looking to spend tag fund money on projects to that it does not get swept by the legislature. It’s important to spend the money on valuable projects that benefit Arizona’s deer herds. Game and Fish – Pete Cimellaro moved, Chris Denham seconded, to oppose the appointment of Bill McLean for a second term on the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, and further that the ADA should send a letter to the Governor’s office outlining the reasons for this opposition. Motion carried. Newsletter – Need articles ASAP. Youth - John has an article on the Unit 23 hunt. Legislative – no report. Website - New content is needed and appreciated. Please email Amanda. Raffle – Tracey Martin will check on on-line sale of raffle tickets using the Arizona Big Game Super Raffle model.
VII. New Business Jim deVos is working on a proposal for lion management. Chandler Rod and Gun Club is starting an effort called “Outdoor Experience” for children who are sick or terminally ill. WCC may cover expenses incurred for this. John Koleszar and Pete Cimellaro will know on Tuesday November 25th. Chris Denham moved, Keith Gaines seconded, that the ADA donate $500 for this effort. Motion carried.
VIII. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned.
