Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

November 20, 2007

Meeting called to order at 6:30

University of Phoenix West Campus

I.        Quarterly Kaibab Update

Fenner, Chasa, Todd and Ron conducted a PowerPoint presentation and distributed written documents.  The Gut Pile Raffle awarded a $500 Cabela’s gift card to the winner.  G&F may look to ADA and other groups for support with the Warm Fire burn area.  The final report on the Kaibab Research project is due in the summer of 2008. 

 II.     Game & Fish

The January commission meeting will be at the new Game and Fish headquarters.  It will be the end of next year before we see another on-line draw system implemented.  Article 1 will be open for review next year.

 After discussion, it was suggested that we ask Pat Barber to attend a future meeting to discuss the collection of civil restitution fines for poaching.

 Larry Audsley has asked for support from the ADA and other conservation groups to write letters in support of the Game and Fish Commission over their concern about the Tumacacori Wilderness.  Pete Cimellaro reviewed the details.  Chris Denham moved, Brad Freitag seconded, that the ADA draft a letter in support of the Commission.  Motion carried.

 

III.  Treasurer’s report

Chris Denham moved, Jeff Dickey seconded, that the treasurer’s report be approved as presented.  Motion carried.

 IV.  Committee Reports

a.       Banquet – Mark Bool is trying to get a $3000 donation from Tim Tanner.  Brad Freitag moved, Mark Bool seconded, that the board approve $15000 for the purchase of firearms at the fundraiser.  Motion carried.  Ticket prices are set at $65 each.  Brad Freitag moved, Rick Miller seconded, that the table prices are set at $1000 each, with $200 of raffle tickets, and a commemorative knife.  Motion carried. 

b.      Habitat projects – in February we are hoping to do a project in the Aravaipa and at Roosevelt.  John Koleszar reviewed communications with the Payson Ranger district.

c.       Newsletter – we need articles.  Please send to the editor

d.      Youth committee – no report.

e.       Legislative – the governor has asked for support for the travel management plan.

f.       Website – the 36A clean up notice has been posted

g.      Membership – it was suggested that we offer a subscription to Western Hunter with our next membership renewal, or with the renewals and new members taken at the May 2008 Fundraiser.

h.      Public Relations – no report.

i.        Conservation Partners – the board discussed recognition of the partners, the trailer promotion, listings in the newsletter and on the website, an endowment fund, etc.  It was suggested that we offer several levels of partnership, including $5000 for a corporate and $500 for a “core sponsor” level.

 

V.     New Business

The Arizona Hunters Who Care are holding another ranch clean up on December 8-9th in 36.  Mark Bool moved, Chris Denham seconded, that the board approve a $300 donation to this event.  Motion carried.

 John Koleszar gave a brief update on the Jerry Weiers Fundraiser at National Bank of Arizona.

 There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm
