BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

September 19, 2006

I.  Call to Order

The Vice President called the meeting to order at 6:31 pm, and introductions of members and guests were made.

II.  Minutes of the August Meeting

Chris Denham moved, John Koleszar seconded, to accept the minutes of the July meeting as presented. Motion carried. 

III.  Treasurer’s Report

Brad Freitag moved, Dom Lopano seconded, to accept the treasurer’s report as presented.  Motion carried.     

IV.  Guest Speakers

Chasa O’Brien answered questions about the nutritional study and funding.  Domenick, Pete, Mark, Chris and Steve are available to meet with Chasa and discuss the proposal after mid-October.   

Terry Petko, of Hunt of a Lifetime, presented information about Ryan Hayden from Cottonwood, who will be going on a turkey hunt in 6A, and needs equipment.   Brad Freitag moved, Mark Bool seconded, to donate $685 to HOAL for Ryan Hayden’s hunt.  Motion carried. 

Brian Wakeling discussed the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, and asked the ADA to consider sponsorship.  Brian will provide information for board review prior to the next board meeting. 

Brian also asked for the board to support Teeming for Wildlife, which will mean providing a letter of support.  Domenick Lopano moved, Chris Denham seconded, to provide a letter supporting Teeming for Wildlife.  Motion carried.

 

V.  Old Business

The board discussed the life member payment plan, presented by Tracey Martin.  After some discussion, it was decided to also offer an option for members to provide their credit card once, and have it charged on specific dates for the four payments of $250.  Brad Freitag moved, Rick Miller seconded, to accept the life member payment plan as modified.  Motion carried. 

We had approximately 175 attendees at the clinic, and gained 35 members.   

The board discussed the ISE show, which will be at the new Cardinals Stadium March 9-11, 2007.  We need to budget funds to revamp and update the display.   

Super Raffle – the price for a mule deer ticket was increased as proposed.

 

VI.  Committee Reports

Banquet –  the banquet tickets have been ordered, and Craig Dunlap has them.  Brad has secured five prints.  

Membership –  renewal rate is good. 

Habitat Projects – the board discussed the water tank project in Unit 23, Boundary Tank.  it is expected that a total of $47,000 will be needed to finish the project, with funds coming from AES and RMEF as well.  Domenick Lopano moved, Mark Bool seconded, to allocate $10,000 from the mule deer tag fund, and $10,000 from the whitetail deer tag fund, to fund this project.  Motion carried.  John Koleszar was appointed to the Habitat Projects committee by Pete Cimellaro, acting president. 

Game and Fish – no report. 

Newsletter – The deadline for the next newsletter is October 1, with a projected mail date by November 1.  We have two new advertisers.  

Youth Committee – Chris Denham moved, Domenick Lopano seconded, to allocate up to $1500 for the youth camps.  Motion carried.   

WCC/Legislative –  The WCC has asked Len Munsil to speak at their next meeting.  Jon Kyl would like to meet with sportsmen and women sometime in October at the National Bank of Arizona to discuss legislative issues.  The Az Sportsmen for Wildlife have their website:  www.arizonasportsmenforwildlife.org 

Website – The board discussed several issues relative to the website, including e-commerce and membership commerce.  Tracey Martin volunteered to work with Amanda to review information and web design.   

Public Relations – no report. 

Conservation Partners -  no report.

 

VII.  New Business

Rick Miller discussed e-commerce and how we can make our site more current.  He volunteered to get pictures of the items and work with Amanda to set up a store on the website.  He also volunteered to do fulfillment of orders, with the ADA paying actual costs such as shipping.  John Koleszar moved, Domenick Lopano seconded, to authorize Rick to begin developing the ADA web store and selling merchandise.  Motion carried. 

Jim Heffelfinger’s new book, Deer of the Southwest, is available on Amazon.com.   

Pete provided a proposal from Steve Clark to AAF, ADA, and AES for meeting space, storage and mailing at his new warehouse.  No action was taken. 

The board discussed the bucket raffle at the fundraiser.  Some donors are concerned about instituting a new system.  Domenick and John volunteered to follow-up on the  fundraiser checks bounced by Michael Duffy. 

 

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 9:25 pm
