Board of Directors Meeting

September 17, 2003

Attending: Todd Julian, presiding; John Brishky, Dom Lopano, Tracey Martin, Pete Cimellaro, Craig Dunlap, Kevin Harris, Bob Davies, Amanda Moors, Mark Bool. Guest: Linda Dightmon

6:30 p.m.- Meeting called to order by the president.

Phone call to Blaine Bickford on home and cell.  No answer.

 

Presidents Report:

Pete Cimellaro moved, John Brishky seconded, that the minutes by approved as presented.  Motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Craig Dunlap reported that our insurance will increase in cost. It will rise $500 next year.

All information for the youth camp in unit 23 has been sent.

 

Newsletter:

Pete reported that the newsletter running on time. Deadline is 9/19/03 for newsletter and will be mailed first week of October.

 

Habitat Projects:

Saturday 9/20/03 at La Quinta Inn I-17 & Greenway G&F will discuss its water projects for the year from 9-11a.m.

Craig Dunlap reported that the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society has approved $2,000 for Jim Bedlion to stay another week to hunt lions on the Arizona Strip. The ADA has already approved matching funds so Jim can stay two weeks longer this coming spring.

John Brishky volunteered to call Jim Bedlion to talk about the additional two weeks.

 

Game & Fish update:

Todd reported about a call from Jim deVos on the deer transplant project.  Pete stated transplants have not had a good success in the past.  After discussion, the board supported getting hard numbers and moving forward with a firm plan on deer transplants.

Bob Davies moved, Domenick Lopano seconded that that Board contact Jim deVos for a plan on deer transplant. Motion carried.

 

Youth Program:

Mike Wilson is heading unit 23 youth camp. Map to follow next week.  Mike Miller is donating hamburger & hot dogs.  We need someone to take supplies up on Thursday night.

The board discussed the JADA account, no update was given. Craig Dunlap to call Bill Hill to check status.

 

Banquet:

The ADA is writing a letter to G&F to receive all four deer tags next year. The tags will be distributed at the October 18, 2003 G&F commission meeting.

Craig Dunlap moved, Domenick Lopano seconded, to guarantee that the (2) Coues' whitetail tags bring $15,000 a piece and the (2) Mule deer tags bring $50,000. Motion carried.

Mark Bool reported that he meet with Chris Denham and went over all banquet activities from last year.  The Board believes that a letter should be sent to all donors to let them know the banquet date and to ask for a 2004 donation.

Bob Davies will arrange for catering at the banquet.

 

Website:

Amanda reported that she sent email to Dale Hajek at the Arizona Republic.

Linda Dightmon reports on doing an article in the Arizona Outdoorsman.

Amanda to link a lot of wildlife groups off the website.

 

Education:

Deer Hunters Clinic 9/25/03 @ Mountain Preserve.  We need a lot of help at the Deer Clinic.

 

By-Laws:

No Report.


Old Business:

Need banner at Deer Clinic.

Kevin to sell ADA merchandise at the Deer Clinic.

Water truck on hold till the start of the year.


New Business:

Kevin Harris moved, Mike Hull seconded that the Association buy replica deer horns. Rack on skull plate for Mule & whitetail deer. The racks are $150 mule deer and $60 whitetail We will pursue getting these racks mounted for use at all of the seminars, clinics, booths, etc.  Motion carried.

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
