Annual Trash Pick-up Day

One group of hunters showing what they picked up during a morning's work.  Other groups of hunters were centered around Three Points.  Thanks to everyone who came out and helped!

March 6th, 2004 was the 3rd annual ‘Trash Pick-up Day’.  The event was held in units 36 A, B, & C, at the corner of Hwy 286 and Arivaca road.  The event began at 8:00am, but some people came the night before and camped out with other Arizona hunters.

Volunteers meeting in the morning to get assignments.

The trash clean-up focused on ranches in the unit 36 area that have given hunters access.  The event is a way of showing our thanks to the ranchers who open up their land to us, by cleaning up their ranches.  This was a great family event.  Everyone divided into groups and headed out in the morning to clean up assigned areas.  Then we met back up at camp around noon and had a great BBQ lunch.  Much of the equipment and food were donated by sportsmen's organizations like Safari Club International, the AZ Deer Association, the Arizona Bowsite, the AZ Game and Fish Department, State Land Department, and the Buenos Aries National Wildlife Refuge.  Lance Altherr coordinated the event as he has for the last several years.  If you have any questions about this event, please contact Lance Altherr at (520) 751-8823 or e-mail shedhunter@worldnet.att.net

ADA board member Chris Denham helped make a dent in the trash found near King Anvil Ranch.

People of all ages came out to help with the trash clean-up.

All kinds of items were found.  Much of the trash comes from illegal aliens, but some of it comes from other people using the area.
